He Say, She Say

He watches her silhouette
The hunched shoulders
Shuddering with each breath.
He wants to reach for her
Touch her shoulder
Her breasts, her protruding belly
He wants to feel the warmth
Of her body cocooned in his
It has been so long
For both of them
Yet he does not dare
He fears her tears
He shys away
As though they are contagious

She glances at him
Over one shivering shoulder
His sleeping face is peaceful
He does not hear her cry
He never does
He never wakes
She wishes he would
She wants him to touch her
Her breasts, her round stomach
She longs for the warmth
Of the man she once married
It has been so long
Since he needed her
But she dares not wake him
For fear he will turn away.
